Verizon: Portland best city in U.S. for small businesses

mainebiz.biz (November 2018) – Portland is the No. 1 ranked city in the newly released Verizon Business “Best Small Cities for Small Businesses” report.

Noting that small businesses make up 99.7% of employers in the United States, Verizon gathered data from nearly 300 cities across the country with populations between 50,000 and 75,000. Its list of the top 50 startup-friendly cities is based on six metrics:

• Education level of the local workforce
• Travel time to work
• Income per capita
• Broadband access
• Loans per capita
• Tax scores, based on the Tax Foundation’s 2018 State Business Tax Climate Index.
