Luxury Homes and Lifestyle in Edgecomb, ME: a quaint and serene coastal community with empowering historic roots

Located on a small peninsula in Midcoast Maine, Edgecomb is a small historic town encompassed between the Sheepscot and Damariscotta Rivers with Boothbay bordering to the south.  This beautiful, quiet, and family-centric town of approximately 1000 has had around the same population as it did when it was incorporated in 1774 which makes it one of the United State’s oldest places.  Today, residents of Edgecomb are largely vacationers, artists, nature enthusiasts, professionals, and generational Mainers who enjoy the community oriented way of life and friendly residents.  With close proximity to the towns of Boothbay Harbor, Waldoboro, and Wiscasset, this area serves as the economic hub of Lincoln County and Midcoast Maine.

Magnificent & authentic Maine

Edgecomb is surely the site of some of coastal Maine’s most amazing scenery, as it surrounded by a variety of pine, spruce, hemlock and fir tree forests that become even more spectacular as the gorgeous summer season turns to autumn.  Walk along trails to view the spectacular foliage, wildlife, and views of the coast.  The Sheepscot and Damariscotta Rivers are perfect for aquatic activities, a picnic, or just relaxing along the Maine coast.  If you are hungry for some authentic Maine seafood, visit the family-owned Glidden Point Oyster Sea Farm for some of the state’s best aquaculture.  They grow world-renowned oysters in the pristine setting using only natural processes.  Local lobster, steamers, and clams are also available.  Need a day to pamper your mind, body, and soul? Visit the Island Spa to suit all of your needs.

An inviting historic town with sites to take you back in time

Take a boat ride along the upper estuary of the Damariscotta River and witness the estimated 2100 year old middens piled high with shells, bones, charcoal, and artifacts left behind by Edgecombs earliest residents - the Native Americans and Early European settlers that once consumed the abundance of wild oysters that once supported these early people.  Join the many historians and archaeologists that have studied these heaps meticulously.  The most significant historical site in the town is Fort Edgecomb, which is now a state park and welcome to visitors to take a self tour with detailed information.  Built in 1809 on Davis Island along the Sheepscot River across from the town of Wiscasset, the fort is a wooden octagonal structure with a second floor larger than its first.  Made to defend the then-important shipbuilding port of Wiscasset from attacks from the British during the War of 1812, the ground floor had holes for the purpose of firing muskets while the purpose of the upper level holes were for firing cannons.  The post saw British prisoners of war and remained manned until being reactivated during the Civil War.  Both of these sites remain as reminders of the area’s rich history and are great sites to visit as residents or visitors.
