Stunning Custom Camden Estate Featured on Boston.com

Our extraordinary listing at 135 Mountain Arrow Drive in Camden, a unique Arts & Crafts-style home set on 18 acres with an infinity pool and guest house, was profiled by Boston.com. The exquisite attention to detail in the craftsmanship includes 9 different types of wood and 23 different types of stone that were used to construct the property.

The expansive 2,000 sq ft guest house was actually built first as a trial run for the design of the main house, which was completed in 2012. The house and guest house feature custom stained glass doors and windows, 6 total fireplaces, a home theater, rec room, sauna, dedicated exercise room, wine cellar, large walk-in closet with custom cabinetry, geothermal heat with radiant in-floor heat and central air conditioning, solar power, a greenhouse and heated parking for four cars.

Arts and Crafts is a beloved architectural style for its focus on fireplaces, open layouts, built-ins, and more, and 135 Mountain Arrow Drive in Camden, Maine, embodies it all.

The home was custom-built by Dominic Paul Mercadante for Dyke Messler, who designed it based on his grandparents’ home in Pasadena, Calif., where he spent weekends and holidays as a child. That home was the Gamble House, built by Charles and Henry Greene for David and Mary Gamble of Procter & Gamble fame, according to Old House Journal.

The Camden home shares many of the features of the Gamble House, but with modern twists.

“It’s sort of a contemporary spin on the original Arts and Crafts style,” listing agent Brian Wickenden of Legacy Properties Sotheby’s International Realty said.

Well-crafted, exposed joinery throughout the interior and on the exterior highlights the home’s simplistic Craftsman design, while lighter wood and more natural light make for brighter interiors than are typical of the style. The 2012 Camden iteration also features updated technology, including solar panels and geothermal radiant heat.
