In fact, by the time some national trends finally make it to Maine, they have already faded out of sight, leaving nearly a ripple of change here. Maine is a small state in terms of population, with approximately 1.35 million people, but it also commands the feeling of unlimited open space for growth and recreation, with miles and miles of bold Atlantic coastline and more than 6,000 lakes and ponds.
