Luxury Homes and Lifestyle in Owls Head, ME: The ultimate lifestyle of tranquility in Maine’s Lighthouse Coast

The town of Owls Head lies on a peninsula that juts out northeast into the Penobscot bay and that is roughly east of downtown Rockland and also creates the southern border of Rockland Harbor, and sits just a minutes drive away from all that Rockland has to offer.

Uncanny yet spectacular

Midcoast Maine is also referred to as the “Lighthouse Coast” for its high volume of lighthouses in part due to its very irregular coastline.  Owls Head is home to one of the most iconic of all Maine lighthouses: Owls Head Lighthouse.  Apart of one of the smallest state parks in Maine, this lighthouse was ordered to be built by President John Quincy Adam in 1826 and sits upon a 70 foot cliff overlooking the Rockland Harbor.  Owls Head Lighthouse not only draws visitors because of its scenic views, but also because of the legends associated with its rich history.   Tales of survival and shipwrecks surrounding this picturesque lighthouse keep visitors intrigued.  The park is also popular for photography, wildlife observing, and beachcombing.

Beaches galore

Anywhere in Owls Head is just a short walk or drive to any of the many great area beaches, coves, and points.  Birch Point Beach State Park is the most popular among beaches with public access yet remains far from busy unlike other Maine beaches making it a gem for a picnic or a place to go fishing.  Other quiet and serene beaches are Crocketts Beach and Crescent Beach, a white sandy beach with calm surf and lined with cute cottages.  Owls Head State Park Lighthouse is also where there are some small beaches as well.

Owls head encompasses a number of small islands as well as a village, a small harbor, and a regional airport.  One of the more unique attractions in the area is the Owls Head Transportation Museum.  Check out the extensive collection of historic airplanes and antique cars and motorcycles.
